Endings and forms

Where the picture shows up in -아/어지다

  1. the dial that slid by itself

    요즘 날씨가 많이 추워졌어요.

    yo-jeum nal-ssi-ga ma-ni chu-wo-jyeo-sseo-yo

It's gotten a lot colder lately.

On an adjective it stops meaning 'is that way' and starts meaning 'is becoming that way': 춥다 (cold) → 추워지다 (get cold).

    설거지하다가 컵이 깨어요.

    seol-geo-ji-ha-da-ga keo-bi kkae-jyeo-sseo-yo

A cup broke while I was washing up.

컵을 깨뜨렸어요 = I broke it; 컵이 깨졌어요 = it broke. The weight of blame is completely different.

  4. it just works

    이 펜은 잘 써져요.

    i pe-neun jal sseo-jyeo-yo

    This pen writes well.

    회의가 다음 주로 미뤄졌어요.

    hoe-ui-ga da-eum ju-ro mi-rwo-jyeo-sseo-yo

The meeting has been pushed to next week.
