Down to the last one left: 마저

The picture A handful that keeps slipping away, one at a time, until a single one is left — and that last one slips away too.

Particles

Where the picture shows up in 마저

  1. the last thing piled on top

    bi-do o-neun-de ba-ram-ma-jeo bu-ne-yo

It's raining, and now the wind has picked up too.

  2. the one who stayed till the end

    chin-gu-ma-jeo tteo-na-sseo-yo

In the end even my friend left.

  3. the last chance

    ma-ji-mak beo-seu-ma-jeo not-cheo-sseo-yo

I missed the last bus too.

  4. finishing off what was left

    na-meun bam-ma-jeo da meo-geo-sseo-yo

I finished off the rest of the rice as well.

Used this way — the remainder, to the end — it does not have to be bad news.

  5. the last trust

    mi-deot-deon sa-ram-ma-jeo deung-eul dol-lyeo-sseo-yo

Even the person I trusted turned their back on me.

조차 is 'even the one you'd never expect'; 마저 is 'even the last one left'. They often overlap, but the feel differs.
