-
the line laid over a child

This child keeps coughing — we need to see a doctor.
A hand rubbing a child's back without pause under a lamp left on all night
All of it in one picture
一直 is one unbroken line. Lay that line over time and it becomes a man who waited at the door the whole while; lay it over a street and it becomes directions to keep going straight. Lay it over a heart and it is affection that never changed; lay it over the sky and it is rain that has not stopped since morning; lay it over a child and it is a cough that will not break, which is why you go to the doctor. Only the surface under the line changes.
