Describing words

Where the picture shows up in 크다

  1. The size outgrows the body

    i sin-ba-reun jeo-han-te jo-geum keo-yo

These shoes are a bit big on me.

The foot is pushed all the way in and empty space still sits at the toe, the shoe sliding loose

  2. The number gains a digit

    geu-mae-gi neo-mu keo-seo ka-deu-ro nael-ge-yo

The total is high, so I'll pay by card.

The figure at the bottom of the receipt grows one digit longer than the cash in the wallet

  3. Sound spills past the ear

    so-ri-ga neo-mu keu-ni-kka jom ju-ryeo ju-se-yo

It's too loud, please turn it down a little.

Sound comes over the wall and fills the ear until a hand claps over it

  4. Height passes last year's mark

    a-i-ga il nyeon sa-i-e ma-ni keo-sseo-yo

The child has grown a lot in a year.

A new pencil line on the door frame is drawn well above last year's line

For a person growing up, Korean uses keuda itself, not a separate verb for grow.

  5. The matter outgrows your guess

    i-beon i-reun saeng-gak-bo-da keun mun-je-ye-yo

This turned out to be a serious problem.

A stain that looked like a dot has soaked right to the edge once the cloth is lifted

All of it in one picture

keuda is one outline spreading outward. Wider than the foot, so the shoe is too big; one extra digit on the total, so the amount is big; sound spilling past the ears, so it is too loud. The pencil mark on the door frame climbs above last year's and the child has grown, and a stain that has soaked to the edge of the cloth is a big problem.
