The て form means nothing. It is a hook.

   the 'by doing' hook

   densha ni notte kaisha made ikimasu

   I take the train to work.

   the 'because' hook

   遅れてすみません。

   okurete sumimasen

   Sorry I'm late.

   the hook for a request

   ここに名前を書いてください。

   koko ni namae o kaite kudasai

   Please write your name here.

   ください always follows the て form. There is no 書きください.

   the hook for permission

   先に帰ってもいいですか。

   saki ni kaette mo ii desu ka

   Is it all right if I leave first?
