召し上がる
meshiagaru
The word that raises the table under someone's meal
The picture The other person's eating and drinking lifted, plate and all, onto a table one step higher than yours — the word literally says "it rises" (上がる). 召し上がる lifts their eating onto a high table; いただく lifts your own eating up to your forehead.

All of it in one picture
召し上がる covers 食べる and 飲む at once, changing nothing but the height of the table the plate sits on. Offering food, you slide the dish up onto that table; taking a drink order, you raise the glass to its level; checking whether someone has finished, you look up at it. The potential 召し上がれますか is a spicy dish halted in front of that table while you watch their face, and even serving instructions are given with the spoon moving up there.
