广
guǎng
A roof with its front wide open — so people come and go
The picture A large cover leaning on a single post, the whole front side standing wide open. 广 is a cover open at the front for coming and going; 宀 is a roof closed on every side.
Where the picture shows up in 广

The kids are playing out on the square.
Children running across a wide open floor with not one wall on it
-
a bay open at the front

-
a surface spread under cover

wǒ gāng qǐchuáng, děng wǒ yíxià

Someone pushing up off a wide flat surface laid out under the cover
起床 is to raise your body off that surface — the bed itself is 床.
-
one person's share of the space
您的座位在那边。
nín de zuòwèi zài nàbiān
Your seat is over there.
A hand pointing out one numbered spot inside a wide hall
-
a place things are stacked under cover
东西都放在仓库里。
dōngxi dōu fàng zài cāngkù lǐ
We've put everything in the warehouse.
Boxes stacked to the rafters inside a bay that is all roof and no walls
库 was the bay where carts were kept — 车 is still sitting inside it.
All of it in one picture
广 is a wide cover with its front open. Take the walls away entirely and you get the square where everyone gathers; leave only the front open and you get a shop customers walk into. Spread a flat surface under the cover and it is a bed; cut out one person's share of it and it is a seat; pile goods under it and it is a warehouse. So a character carrying 广 is talking about a place broadly covered but never sealed.
