About this template

When to use it

A one-page Resignation Letter for handing in through your line manager. Korean practice treats it as a request, not a switch you flip: submitting it does not end the employment on its own, and section 3 of the file is built around that. The four-cell table under the title reads Department / Title · Name / Start date / Requested leaving date, sampled as Sales Team 1, “Assistant manager Kim Seo-yeon”, 2021-04-01 and 2026-09-30. The gray line under the title is a filling prompt and can be deleted.

Filling order

  1. 1. Reason for resigning — one or two sentences. The sample is “Voluntary resignation for personal reasons”, and the file says outright that a specific reason is optional and that you are not obliged to set out the reason in detail. Say more only if you want the record to say more.
  2. 2. Intended last day and handover — the requested last working day, then the handover window, then who covers if no successor has been named. The sample runs September 1 to September 30, four weeks.
  3. 3. Final settlement and returning company property — remaining annual leave paid out as an allowance, wages and severance pay requested within 14 days of the leaving date, and the ID card, laptop, corporate card and access card returned.
  4. Sign the three-cell block at the foot: The undersigned, then the team lead, then the HR Team.

Dates are the whole document

The Key metrics table repeats four values — start date 2021-04-01, employment period 5 years 6 months, last working day 2026-09-30, leave remaining 8 days. Every one of them also appears in the header table or in the body, so change one and change it everywhere. The leaving date in particular is the pivot: severance pay, the final payroll run and the loss-of-coverage filings for the four social insurances are all counted from it.

Handing it in is not the end of it

A resignation takes effect when the employer accepts it. Until it is accepted you can normally ask to withdraw it, and after acceptance you cannot — so record the date you were told it had been accepted, and keep a copy of what you submitted. Where a leaving date is agreed that differs from the one you asked for, amend the Requested leaving date cell rather than leaving two dates in circulation. Walking out before the agreed date is what turns an ordinary departure into a dispute.

What to line up before the last day

  • The 8 days of leave in the sample: decide whether you are taking them inside the handover window or being paid for them, because you cannot do both.
  • Ask for the loss-of-coverage filings for the four social insurances to be confirmed, so health insurance does not lapse quietly.
  • Request a certificate of career while HR still has your file open; it is far easier now than a year from now.
  • Agree how you will receive the year-end tax settlement paperwork, and give a contact address that will still work.

Common mistakes

  • Writing the handover into section 2 without agreeing it first, so the letter promises a window the team has not accepted.
  • Filling in a reason in more detail than you meant to. Once it is in the file it stays there.
  • Leaving the asset line generic. Name the items, as the sample does; a line saying company property was returned settles nothing.
  • This template is a general form and is not legal advice. Where a bond, a training-cost clawback or a non-compete is in play, have your situation reviewed before you submit.
