One empty square that is both a seat and a job title
The picture A square left empty so that something fits exactly into it. Empty, and a slot opens; filled, and you've settled in. 자리 is a square kept open for something to go into; 곳 is just a spot, the place itself — an empty 곳 is merely empty, but an empty 자리 is waiting for someone.
