About this template

At the start of a quarter

Three sheets: OKR, Rollup & check-ins and Writing standards. You only type into rows 13-24 of the OKR sheet, whose columns run O, Objective, Key Result, Metric, Start, Target, Current, Attainment, Confidence and Owner in column K. The sample holds three objectives and nine KRs for Q3 2026 (Jul–Sep), with check-ins every Tuesday.

Column by column

  • O – O1, O2, O3. KRs under one objective must share this value or the rollup cannot group them.
  • Objective – write the sentence on the first KR row only; the sample fills it on rows 13, 16 and 19.
  • Metric, Start, Target, Current – four cells that work as one. Put the unit in the metric name, as in “Share using a core feature within 7 days (%)”, 31 to 60, currently 48.
  • Attainment is a formula. Do not type over it.
  • Confidence takes only High, Medium or Low. It is a human judgement separate from the number, and the Writing standards sheet says what each grade obliges you to do at the check-in.

Worked examples

  • O2, KR1 “Cut the time to recover from an incident”, metric Mean time to recover (min), start 47, target 15, current 21, confidence High: attainment computes to 81%.
  • Metrics that should fall work the same way. “Churn within 30 days of signup (%)” from 14.2 to 6 simply has a start value larger than the target.
  • Attainment stops at 100% even when you pass the target, so record overachievement in the check-in log.

How the formulas work

  • Attainment is =IFERROR(MEDIAN(0,(H13-F13)/(G13-F13),1),0): current minus start over target minus start, clamped between 0 and 1. Identical start and target give 0.
  • The quarter summary counts KRs with =COUNTA(D13:D24), averages attainment, and counts =COUNTIF(I13:I24,”>=0.7″), =COUNTIF(I13:I24,”<0.3″) and =COUNTIF(J13:J24,”Low”).
  • Per-objective averages are =IFERROR(AVERAGEIF(‘OKR’!$B$13:$B$24,”O1″,’OKR’!$I$13:$I$24),0), so adding an O4 means adding a row on the rollup sheet and editing the formula too.
  • The owner table hard-codes names, as in =COUNTIF(‘OKR’!$K$13:$K$24,”Kim Seo-yeon”) – Kim Seo-yeon is one of the four sample owners, alongside Park Ji-hoon, Lee Su-min and Choi Do-hyun. Change a name in B14:B17 and change it inside every formula on that row.

Common mistakes

  • Typing 0.7 into Attainment. That deletes the formula and freezes that KR; the cell you update is Current.
  • Adding KRs below row 24 – every range stops at twelve rows.
  • Leaving the Owner blank, which drops the KR from the owner table. The Writing standards sheet insists on one named owner per KR.
  • Setting Confidence mechanically from attainment. A KR at 80% with Low confidence is exactly what the weekly check-in exists for.
