About this template
Ten slides for shareholders every quarter
The deck you send existing shareholders monthly or quarterly, attached to an email or circulated before a board meeting. It is not a fundraising pitch: a pitch spends half its slides on market and product, while an update is about what changed since last time. The defaults match that purpose, with two sections – quarter summary and metrics.
Six agenda lines, two bodies
The agenda runs quarter summary, metrics, cash and runway, blockers, asks, next-quarter commitments, but only the first two carry a divider and a body slide. Blockers and asks are the two you must not drop, so duplicate a pair for each, or write them as three lines on the closing slide if the length is fixed. Cash and runway is covered by the 17-month card, and the next-quarter commitment fits under the closing title.
Keep the three lines in fixed positions
Slide 4 runs results, customers, team; slide 6 runs scale, churn, price. Hold that order every quarter so shareholders compare like with like.
- Summary: “108% of the quarterly revenue goal”, “two enterprise contracts signed”, “head of engineering hired”.
- Metrics: “84k monthly actives”, “monthly churn down to 3.1%”, “ARPU up 12% quarter on quarter”.
- Give bad news one of the three lines with a plan attached; a footnote costs more trust than the news does.
Four cards and the monthly bars
Slide 8 holds 84k monthly actives, 108% of goal, 17 months of runway and 3.1% churn – scale, results, survival, retention. Keep the categories and change the values. Three of the four repeat numbers from slide 6, so edit both together. Runway is cash divided by the last three months’ average net burn and moves monthly, so print the as-of date under the card. Slide 9 shows April 49, May 58, June 64 and July 79; a quarterly report with a fourth month attached needs July marked as provisional, or replace the bars with four recent quarters.
What goes wrong over successive rounds
- Re-cutting the chart window each time so nothing is comparable, which casts doubt on the rest.
- Closing with thanks but no specific ask – hiring referrals, customer intros, a follow-up meeting.
- Quietly redefining a metric to reach 84k; if the definition changes, say so and show the old basis alongside.
